The ask
The client needed a new, dedicated premium retouching service, built specifically for high-end brand imagery, not bolted onto a general-purpose queue, and it had to launch straight into volume. The first month's ask was 23,000 images against a standing production capacity of 16,000. The service had to be built, staffed, and trained, and already running at nearly one and a half times normal throughput, without the quality dip you'd expect from a team still new to the process.
The approach
We didn't scale the team and figure out the process later. We proved the process first, then scaled the team against it. A dedicated SOP was built specifically around advanced premium retouching techniques for high-end brand imagery, validated through sample production before any volume commitment, and refined against stakeholder feedback until the client signed off. Only then was a dedicated team trained on the finished process and put into production. To close the 7,000-image gap, resources were reallocated and cross-functional collaboration tightened, with continuous quality monitoring running throughout the launch window so 100% quality held from the first week of volume.
Why it matters
This is a launch story and a scale story happening at the same time, which is the harder version of either one alone. The service didn't launch small, prove itself, and scale later. It launched 44% over its own standing capacity and held 100% quality for the full month, with a team that was, by definition, brand new to the process it was already running at volume.
